Vanes Martirosyan Wins in 8th Round by Unanimous Decision!

Super-welterweight Vanes Martirosyan (23-0, 14 KOs) of Glendale kept his perfect record intact, easily outpointing Billy Lyell (18-7, 3 KOs) of Youngstown, Ohio, over eight rounds for a unanimous decision victory. It was target practice for Martirosyan, a 2004 U.S. Olympian, who landed combinations at will and was never threatened by the overmatched Lyell.

All three judges had Martirsoyan winning by a wide margin, 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74.

Darchinyan too much for Arce

Junior middleweight Vanes Martirosyan of Glendale remained undefeated with an eight- round unanimous decision over Billy Lyell (18-7) of Youngstown, Ohio.

Martirosyan, a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic team, said afterward that he believes he broke his left hand in the first round. He was in obvious pain as the fight progressed.

Martirosyan (23-0) is promoted by Top Rank Inc. Lee Samuels, a Top Rank spokesman, said Martirosyan's hand was quite swollen after he removed his glove.

Vanes Martirosyan (22-0, 14 KOs) stopped Charlie Howe (16-6-2) by technical knockout at 1:20 of Round 1. Martirosyan weighed in at 157 pounds to Howe's 159 in a fight scheduled for super welterweight.
